I'd imagine this was because you hadn't stopped them running. Switching the account context literally only changes the target account that is in focus. Therefore, if you switch while cbots are running, the activity will continue on the account that is active.
I believe that v4x didn't allow account changes when there were any active cbots, this may be a change introduced in v5.
