Hello,

I am new to this but for now I like the grid system and I am trying to optimize the 10 major forex pairs. Like in the tutorial movies from Paul I do the optimizing in steps.
1-Turn of all indicators but turn on the Dinapoli (include confirmation no, close trade yes, trades 2,2,3)
2-in step 1 my optimization criteria are 1 max profit 2 min equity 3 min losing trades
3 Turn on indicator ATR for optimizing
4 Optimization criteria as 2 and 2nd time with 3 max winning trades and see what is best
5 turn on indicator HMA for optimizing (most of the time the result is to turn off)
6 turn on break even and trailing stop for optimizing (1 max profit 2 min equity 3 max winning trades).

Dear all,

I have been doing some research and learning on how to optimise smart grid, I have been optimising CADJPY. I am happy with the results apart from the odd major equity drawdown as I want to keep within 5%. My question is, looking at my screenshot do you think the drawdown at trade 42 could be engineered out via news manager or should I also be looking at tweeking any other settings. So far I have optimised DiNapoli and trailing stop, I have manually tweaked a few others. See text file for seeting and screen shot for back test.

Any pointers would be great, Cheers Simon

These settings are not so great, I would run the optimisation until for 1-year and look for a drawdown of 5% or less.

The drawdown was caused by runaway trades that were left open and started losing a large amount of profit, if this does ever happen I would manually close these trades before they cause too much drawdown, it is possible that a news event or other market event caused this.

Once optimisation is run on diNapoli for example for 1 year, would you try all results say in the top 20, as the select best does not always give the best results. Also as I have been starting with optimisation of diNapoli first what's the best settings to set for everything else. I presume most parameters switched off and then once a decent diNapoli is found start to try other settings for improvement? Cheers Simon

I would order by Profit factor as this is the best setting, also try removing the optimisation criteria for maximum trades.

I will get some Forex settings published soon so you can use this as a base for other currency pairs, from this you can run optimisation on these settings plus or minus a few values.

The following values below we use for optimisation at the same time.

Grid distance 1-5
Volume multiplier leave at 1
stop loss 50-200
max losing buy and sell 1 - 10
automatic TP (YES)
average TP 10 - 100
Trailing stop loss (optional) 5-20
Step 1 - 5
DiNapoli indicator, all settings, crossover 1-10
ATR Filter (yes) 1-min TF, all settings

Done better I think. results over a year, max equity drawdown 4.59% with a 17% return. Long way to go but I think it's better, cheers Simon

That's perfect, good work, I would start with the lowest position size, babysit your trades manually for market events and recalibrate (optimise) regularly.

Thanks for the reply, I have managed to play around with the optimisation and squeeze some more, this is a 1 year until present date with slightly better results. if anyone wants the cbot set to play around with it I can post it here.

20%, 5.5%DD, 1 year BT to date
